Our History

The coalition that began the Puget Sound Interfaith Youth Camp came together in April 2005. They watched "Trust Me," a film documenting a camp held during the summer after 9/11 in North Carolina.

That camp served a group of 33 boys -- equal numbers of Christians, Jews, and Muslims -- who spent a week together. The campers had such a meaningful experience that the Tacoma group was inspired to do something similar in the South Puget Sound.

After meeting for several months, the group decided that the camp would include boys and girls going into the 7th & 8th grades. Ninth graders were added in 2007. They also decided that the campers would come from all religious and faith traditions, not only Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Where is the Camp Held?

The camp is held at Camp Seymour, a facility of the YMCA located on the Key Peninsula in Pierce County. This location provides wood-paneled cabins and an array of outdoor activities, including canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts, court sports, hiking, campfires and more.
